SIA Commits Global Support for Women and Girls

Soroptimist International of the Americas, Inc., stands in solidarity with the people of Ukraine, especially the women and girls, at this time of greatest need. 

History shows that women and girls are often profoundly and disproportionately affected by conflict. According to UN Women, recent estimates indicate that 54% of people in need of immediate assistance from the Ukrainian crisis are women. Reports suggest millions of women and girls have been displaced, attempting to flee to safer areas. 

In addition, women and girls are particularly vulnerable to sexual and gender-based violence, loss of access to healthcare, education, food and water during times of conflict. There is also an increased burden on women responsible for caring for children and compromised family members. 

In solidarity with our Ukrainian sisters, we call on members to visit Soroptimist International of Europe for information on directly supporting their warzone relief efforts. As Soroptimists, we work to educate, empower, and enable women and girls – let us now unite our support for those impacted by the war. Together we can help ensure they have the necessary resources to rebuild their damaged lives, hopes, and dreams.
