LiveYourDreamCampagin.org webisode series wins Telly Award
The LiveYourDreamCampaign.org webisode series features Sena Kimbrell, a past Soroptimist Women's Opportunity Awards recipient, who is on a quest to live her dream to become a doctor of Oriental medicine. This inspirational four-part series was a bronze-level recipient in the not-for-profit category. The Telly Awards is an annual awards competition that honors the best in local, regional, and cable television commercials and programs, as well as the finest video and film productions, and work created for the web. This year, the 29th Telly Awards competition received 14,000 entries from top agencies, production companies, TV stations, cable companies and corporations in the world. Soroptimist Women's Opportunity Awards finalists chosen

Colleen T. Brooks, chief financial officer, AIDS Coalition of Southern New Jersey;Sarah Gibbons, senior public affairs associate, Family Planning Council of Southeastern Pennsylvania; Sister Teresita Hinnegan, medical mission sister, Center for the Empowerment of Women; Carolyn Haynes, deputy director, Women’s Community Revitalization Project; and Tamela Luce, director of Community Women’s Fund, Women’s Way (pictured left to right), served as judges for the Soroptimist Women’s Opportunity Awards program. The judging took place at Soroptimist headquarters in Philadelphia, where judges reviewed 28 applications and selected three deserving finalists to receive a $10,000 Women’s Opportunity Award, which provides cash grants to head-of-household women who wish to obtain additional education or skills training. The Women's Opportunity Awards program is Soroptimist's major project. It begins at the club level, where award amounts vary. This year, nearly 1,000 Soroptimist clubs participated in the program. The three 2008 Women’s Opportunity Awards recipients will be announced during Soroptimist’s international convention in Taipei, Taiwan, this July.

Philadelphia women choose Soroptimist Violet Richardson Award finalist
Dana Dabek-Milstein,director of leadership programs, Alice Paul Institute; Jennifer Allebach, program director, Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania; and Dale McCreedy, director, Gender and Family Learning Programs/Girls at the Center, The Franklin Institute (pictured left to right), served as judges for the Soroptimist Violet Richardson Award program, which honors girls, ages 14 to 17, for doing exceptional volunteer work in their communities. The judging took place at Soroptimist headquarters in Philadelphia, where judges reviewed 28 applications and selected a girl who will receive $2,500 to give to the charitable organization of her choice. The Violet Richardson Award program begins at the club level, where award amounts vary. This year, more than 700 Soroptimist clubs participated in the program. The 2008 Violet Richardson Award finalist will be announced during Soroptimist’s international convention in Taipei, Taiwan, this July.
